At HG, we all completed a 5K to celebrate 5 years of FiA Carpex!  In advance of the workout, Frito shared on Slack that we would likely go over our 45 minute workout time in order to complete the 5K together so all pax were warned!

We circled up in the parking lot and Frito shared the disclaimer.  We grabbed our water and did a walking warm up to one corner of the track.  Our warm up included – alternating knees to chest, alternating butt kickers, slow side shuffles (each side), toy soldiers, and arm circles.

We then began the first of 6 laps around the track (each lap = approx half a mile).  Frito left a stack of index cards at the halfway point and at the start/end of the track to serve as a “pit stop” location.  At the halfway point and at the end of each lap, pax did an exercise from the index cards while everyone regrouped and came together.  The cards included the following exercises (many were repeated at multiple pit stop pauses): (1) squat + side leg lift, (2) Raggedy Anns, (3) cross punch/jabs – alternating arms, (4) reverse lunge – alternating legs, (5) Hallelujahs, (6) small arm circles – alternating forwards/backwards.

Also, as we began laps 2-5, to celebrate year 4 of FiA Carpex (2020-2021), we started with 20/20 or 20/21 of various exercises before running to the next pit stop.  These exercises were: (1) 20 side shuffles left, 20 side shuffles right, (2) 20 butt kickers, 21 skips, (3) 20 imperial walkers – each leg, (4) 20 traveling high knees, 21 squat walks.

Everyone finished the 5K and the sunrise was beautiful!

Frito shared a COT – “If you run, you are a runner.  It doesn’t matter how fast or how far.  It doesn’t matter if today is your first day or if you’ve been running for twenty years.  There is no test to pass, no licenses to earn, no membership card to get.  You just run.”  and then we did nameorama.

Happy 5 years, Carpex!
